Sediment Reduction Projects

greatlakesCook SWCD was awarded a Great Lakes Commission grant in 2010 to complete various projects on Caspers Hill Road to reduce erosion impacting the Little Brule River and Gauthier Creek, both designated trout streams.

Upon completion of field work and sediment reduction project designs (completed by Cook SWCD and TSA3 staff) construction commenced and was completed in September 2011. Caspers Hill Road is a private road and Cook SWCD received support and a portion of the match (funding) for this project from the landowners.

Sediment reduction projects completed at Caspers Hill Road site included:
• Erosion control around Little Brule Creek
• Two culvert replacements
• Ditch stabilization
• General road erosion control including road crowning, road tilting, and water bars.

Before and after photos of a few of the projects are shown below in Figures 1 to 8. Cook SWCD would like to thank the Great Lakes Commission and the landowners on Caspers Hill Road for their support.
