Cook County hosts two Household Hazardous Waste Collections every year, usually in early June, and again in late September. The collections are held at the Cook County Recycling Center in Grand Marais, and are free to residents.

In cases of emergencies, Cook County also has a household hazardous waste storage locker located at the Recycling Center. Prior coordination must be made for any kind of emergency drop-offs of household hazardous waste.
