LOCALLY LED CONSERVATION WORKS

For nearly 40 years the Soil & Water Conservation District has worked for a balance of responsible use and protection of the county's soil and water. Citizens at the grassroots level work hard, make difficult decisions, and shape our future.

PROTECTING AND RESTORING SOIL AND WATER RESOURCES.

On the Ground... prevent soils, nutrients, and pollutants from entering surface waters.

Wetlands...  In wetlands storm water is filtered and naturally purified before running into streams, lakes and ground water.  Minnesota’s goal of no net loss of wetlands assures that the water quality of the county remains pure.  Land use actions today affect water quality for centuries.

Watersheds...  Downstream effects must be considered when developing or altering the land.

Volunteer Monitors: Rain Snow and water monitoring... Over thirty volunteers measure rain and snowfall as part of the soil & Water Climatology network. Another group of 38 volunteers monitored 95 of the county's lakes and stream in 2007. More volunteers monitors needed.
