Technical Assistance
surveyTechnicians can review landowner plans for roads, building sites, and vegetation. They can advise on restoration of damaged areas and recommend specific best management practices (BMPs) to manage stormwater and prevent erosion and soil loss.

Wetland Conservation

waterUnlike much of the state, Cook County is fortunate to still have over 90% of its pre-European settlement wetlands. These wetlands are vital parts of the natural landscape   and contribute to clean water, flood storage, and wildlife habitat. Conservation District staff assist Cook County and the City of Grand Marais with implementation of the Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act, which requires land-altering activities to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to wetlands

Native Landscaping

Native trees, shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers are used to control erosion, encourage stormwater infiltration, enhance natural habitat, and improve the aesthetic value of the land. Perhaps most importantly, they can be used to discourage the spread of invasive and non-native plants.
