January 17, 2018 – Following are highlights and key priorities covered at the Tuesday, Jan 17 Committee of the Whole meeting. New in 2018, Committee of the Whole meetings are taking place at 5 pm on the third Tuesday of the month, rather than at 1 pm, and allows for public comment and question.

Several members of the public in attendance asked questions about Commissioner assignments and County Board procedures. Board Chair Ginny Storlie facilitated a conversational approach to these questions and a good discussion was had.

January 8, 2018, 1: 30 am – The Emergency Shelter opened at the Cook County Senior Center earlier tonight as a result of a power outage in Grand Marais and Croftville, is now closed. The Public Utilities Commission worked diligently over the last several hours to restore power and heat to several area homes.

January 7, 2018, 10:15 pm – A power outage which began earlier this evening due to a bad underground cable is affecting large portions of the City of Grand Marais east of Birchwood. It is believed to extend as far east as Croftville. The Public Utilities Commission is working to identify the scope and possible duration of the outage and is working with Cook County Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s Office.
