District 2

Biography of Myron Bursheim

I grew up in the “thirteen towns” area of Northwestern Minnesota. This was primarily a farming area with few lakes and rivers, but I really enjoyed lakes and rivers and my dream was to live in such a place as the Arrowhead Region. I was able to live my dream by purchasing a cedar log cabin at the West end of McFarland Lake 23 years ago, less than a quarter mile from the BWCA.

After teaching several years and going to graduate school, I became a Curriculum and Instruction Administrator in the Anoka Hennepin School District and spent thirty-five years in the district serving in various administrative roles. After retiring from Anoka Hennepin, I became a National Leadership Consultant working with administrators in large metropolitan school districts throughout the United States. My emphasis in working as a consultant was primarily centered on self improvement and quality management strategies.

I moved to Grand Marais eleven years ago and have been involved in the community as a musician and being a volunteer in schools, churches, and nonprofits. I also spend time each week at McFarland and feel like I live in both of the best worlds which fit my personality. I am equally an extrovert and introvert needing both people and solitude of the wilderness. I am also an adventurous type who does much exploring by canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing/skiing, and snowmobiling - always looking for and enjoying a place I haven’t seen before.

I have developed a strong sense of “finding my home” in Cook County and I feel privileged to give back by serving as County Commissioner. I really look forward to working with all community members and especially with those who elected me in District 2. My philosophy of government is not just thinking in terms of “yes or no,” but rather “what is possible.”
